The end of an era! The first track I ever raced on. So this is the last day of petrol fueled karts at TeamSport Reading - don’t get me wrong, I also love racing electric, but it is a new world!
It wasn't my best ever race, coming second, but that's not what the day was really about. The smell of petrol and the sound of the engines was been a fundamental part of karting, but it looks like going electric is unavoidable.
For the venue there are clear advantages. Take for example the need for ventilation with petrol. You just don't need that with electric and at long as the electricity used is generated in a green way it is also better for the planet.
Saying that, as I wrote in the previous post (https://speedygonzalex.com/2023/06/supporting-damon-hills-halow-project.html), Zero Petroleum (http://zero.co) demonstrated the use of carbon neutral petrol at Damon Hill's Festival of Karting. Additionally, it's a "drop in replacement", meaning that the engine does not need any modifications. So clearly there is more than one way for the future of motorsport.
We'll see how it develops...
